On top of a tall wardrobe in a child’s room, tucked away in a distant corner, there once stood a cute pig-shaped piggy bank. It was filled to the brim with coins and felt extremely important because of it. From its high place, it could look over the entire room, watching the games and laughter below. Believing that the money inside could buy almost anything made the piggy bank feel powerful and proud.
The room was full of toys—dolls, toy cars, and soft stuffed animals that played happily together every day. They laughed, imagined adventures, and enjoyed each other’s company. Yet the piggy bank could never join them. It was placed so high that it could barely hear their voices. Sometimes the toys tried to invite it to play, but the piggy bank rarely noticed. All it could do was watch from above. As time passed, this distance filled it with sadness and a deep sense of loneliness.
One day, overwhelmed by its unhappiness and quiet anger, the piggy bank lost itself in thought. “Why do I only watch?” it wondered. “Why can’t I play like the others?” In that moment of restlessness, it suddenly fell to the floor with a loud crash.
The piggy bank shattered into pieces, and the coins inside scattered in every direction. Free at last from the dark space they had been trapped in, the coins sparkled with joy, rolling and clinking across the floor as if celebrating their freedom. For a brief moment, they shone brightly, alive with excitement. Soon after, the broken pieces of the piggy bank were carefully gathered and placed into a box. Silence returned to the room, the toys went back to their games, and the coins were collected.
They say everything has a beginning and an end. For the piggy bank, this was how the story ended. Let us hope that the next piggy bank placed on that wardrobe meets a kinder fate.
